 Indeed 

adverb
1 used to emphasize a positive statement or answer
‘Is he very angry?’ ‘Indeed he is.’
‘Did you agree?’ ‘Indeed I did/Yes, indeed.’
‘You said you'd help?’ ‘I did indeed—yes.’
It is indeed a remarkable achievement.
Indeed, he is a great poet. = He is indeed a great poet.
This is indeed [=certainly] a matter of great importance.
They were indeed heroes, though they were never honored.
She does indeed work here.
I will indeed be there.
The problem is a serious one indeed.
“Do you know him?” “I do indeed.” = “Indeed I do.”
“Do you know him?” “Yes, indeed!” [=I certainly do]

2 ( especially BrE ) used after very and an adjective or adverb to emphasize a statement, description, etc.
Thank you very much indeed!
I was very sad indeed to hear of your father's death.
This is a very nice house indeed.

3 ( formal , especially BrE ) used to add information to a statement
I don't mind at all. Indeed, I would be delighted to help.
He likes to have things his own way; indeed, he can be very stubborn.
She is quite lovely, indeed a beauty.
Many people objected. Indeed, my uncle complained in writing.
It is possible—indeed, probable—that the crime was an inside job.

4 used in response to a statement that is regarded as doubtful or surprising
“I did my best.” “Did you indeed?”
“The project is still on schedule.” “Is it indeed?”
“He claims that it was just a misunderstanding.” “Indeed?”

5 used in a question that repeats and emphasizes a preceding question to show that you do not know the answer
“How can we help them?” “How, indeed?”
“When will they come here again?” “When, indeed?”

Idiom

a friend in need (is a friend indeed)
 means :  A friend that helps you when you need it is a true friend
